Adapted from Antonio di Benedetto’s 1956 novel, Zama is cinematically stunning; an immersive portrayal of an eighteenth-century Spanish colony and its local magistrate Don Diego de Zama. Amid the languid life of the colony the magistrate awaits a letter form the King of Spain that will rescue him and send him home. When escape comes, it is not as he had expected.
